January 31: Books to read and review
Periodically on the Run Spot Run Blog I’ll post a summary of my review agenda for the website. This stack tends to fluctuate wildly throughout the year, sometimes getting as high as 10-12 titles at a time. Currently on deck:
Garth Greenwell, What Belongs to You (Farrar, Straus and Giroux)
Elliott Chaze, Black Wings Has My Angel (NYRB Books)
Roberto Arlt, The Seven Madmen (NYRB Books)
It’s been particularly exciting to track the pre-publication buzz of the Greenwell – some folks are saying it’s the first great novel of the year. I’ve just started that and will likely move on to Black Wings Has My Angel afterwards, which some friends have told me might just be a perfect example of a pulp crime novel.
