I took this picture at the National Western Stock Show in January. I went with my mom, sister, and my best friend. I took it for my picture essay for school – my topic is the West. I even got in trouble for taking a picture of someone’s Western art (but I did get a good picture), and now i have 11 very happy photos hanging on a poster at school!
This photo shows the style and color of the West. Sometimes I find that when I imagine the West, I imagine it in black and white. But as you can see here, there is plenty of color. Not only does it show color but it also shows style. The west is known for the cowboy boots and cowboy hats. It’s just an obvious Western thing.

A while ago I came across Postcrossing.com, a site that facilitates the sending of postcards to complete strangers. You send a postcard to a man in Bangladesh, and someone else in Rotterdam sends you one back. The postcard you send is a selfless gift from which you expect nothing in return. It’s not about reciprocity. It’s about connection.
I sent this drawing to a 52-year-old German woman. I hoope she likes it.
